A devastated young boy couldn’t imagine living without his mother, weeping at her grave. Then, he suddenly felt a woman’s hand on his shoulder.
Kevin was only six years old when his mother died in an accident. Since then, he has lived in an orphanage, because he never knew his father and no other member of his family is ready to welcome him.
The young boy did not like living in the orphanage. He constantly dreamed that his mother would one day take him away from there to live with her again.
At the orphanage, the other children laughed at him, teasing him that his mother was dead and he would never see her again.
“You have to face the truth, Kevin. Your mother is no longer alive, and you will never see her again. Stop being a baby!” said one of his roommates.
Kevin cried all day, causing the kids to tease him even more. “You’re a whiny baby. No one will want to adopt you,” they said.
One day, the children from the orphanage were allowed to walk outside in a nearby park. While they were busy playing, Kevin ran away and headed for the town cemetery without looking back.
Kevin knew where his mother was buried, because he had promised to visit her often. However, he couldn’t keep his promise because the orphanage barely allowed them to go out.
When he saw his mother’s grave, he sat down and wept. “I miss you so much mommy. Please take me with you,” he sobbed. “There is nothing for me here…”
After a few moments, Kevin suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. He wiped his eyes and looked behind him. There, a beautiful woman was standing, with rays of sunlight that made her seem to shine. “Why are you crying, boy? Are you okay?” she asked.
“I don’t have a mother anymore. I miss her,” Kevin replied sadly.
“I’m sorry to hear that, sweetheart. Where do you live now?” the woman asked.
“At the orphanage,” Kevin told her.
“My name is Susan,” said the woman, seated next to Kevin. “I go to the cemetery to meditate at the grave of my son,” she revealed.
Hearing his name, Kevin’s eyes widened. He smiled and said excitedly, “That’s my mom’s name too!”
The woman smiled and walked Kevin back to the orphanage. On the way home, she spotted a small amusement park and asked him if he wanted to go there. Kevin nodded enthusiastically.
The little boy was happy to ride the carousel and eat ice cream with Susan. Then she took him back to the orphanage and said goodbye when they were done. “Your mama loves you, honey. Never doubt that,” she said before leaving.
That evening, Susan went to church and prayed that Kevin would find a loving family. But, when she went to bed, she suddenly had a strange dream.
In her dream, her late son Adam gave her a note with the address “443 Washington Street”. Before waking up, her son said to her, “Mom, please take me with you.”
This dream happened to Susan several times in a week. Worried about what this could mean, Susan then revealed everything to her husband.
“It’s so weird, honey. I dreamed of Adam handing me a note with a certain address. He keeps telling me to take it with me,” she said.
“What could that mean? What is Adam trying to tell you?” her husband Richard asked.
“I don’t know, but I’ve been having the same dream since I met this young boy named Kevin at the cemetery. He was visiting his mother, and he said he was living at the orphanage, so I took me there,” she explained.
Later, Richard and Susan decided to go to the address she dreamed of. Indeed, 443 Washington Street was in their city. Once there, Susan was surprised to see the orphanage where she had taken Kevin a few days before.
Immediately, Susan spotted Kevin sitting by the downstairs window. She pointed it out to her husband, saying it was the boy she had met at the cemetery.
“What are you doing here, darling?” Susan asked the young boy, who was staring up at the sky.
“I pray that my mother takes me away from here,” the young boy revealed.
Susan and Richard looked at each other and immediately knew what they wanted to do. They decided to adopt Kevin and did everything they could to give him a happy life.
Kevin was surprised that someone wanted to adopt him. And he was even happier to learn that it was Susan and her husband Richard who wanted to do it.
“God answered my prayers,” Kevin told Susan and Richard one day over dinner. “My mother took me from the orphanage, and now I’m here with my family,” he smiled.
“God answered my prayers too, honey. When I met you that day, I went to church and prayed that you would find a loving family. I didn’t know that day- there you were going to be our son, but I’m glad we ended up being your family. Thanks for giving us a chance, Kevin,” she smiled, holding his hand.
What can we learn from this story?
- Nothing happens by chance. Kevin and Susan were destined to meet at the cemetery that day because God had a plan for them. They were both healing from the loss of loved ones and they were meant to be together.
- God always answers your prayers. Even though it may take some time, God always answers your prayers in the best way.
