People can now adopt dogs who failed government training for being too friendly

It’s not just animal shelters that offer dogs for adoption. The Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) also has a program that allows people to adopt dogs who haven’t completed their training. These larger dogs, including German Shorthaired Pointers, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, and Belgian Malinoises, are primarily used for drug detection.

Puppies are often unable to graduate from the program because they are too excitable or cannot keep up with the demanding curriculum. This is similar to dogs that do not graduate from Seeing Eye training, as it is usually due to a lack of concentration.

Families who are willing to provide a loving home to these “dropout” puppies, typically between two and four years old, must comply with strict regulations set by the TSA. Families must have a fenced yard or garden and be able to provide the necessary medical care, exercise, training, and companionship.

Dog Adoption

n addition to puppies, retired TSA dogs also require loving homes. According to We Are the Mighty, retired dogs are typically placed with their handlers 90 percent of the time, but this wasn’t always the case.

Before the implementation of Robby’s Law in 2000, many older dogs were euthanized after their service was complete because they were considered “surplus equipment” and lacked value beyond their military training, according to the Justice4tedds website.

In recent years, the “Adopt, Don’t Shop” movement has gained popularity, with numerous celebrities endorsing charities that rescue dogs from high-kill shelters and adopting their own furry companions rather than purchasing them.

Paris Hilton, for example, recently supported the animal rights organization I Stand With My Pack (ISWMP), which works to save animals’ lives and prevent pet suffering and cruelty. In December of last year, she attended a charity event that showcased dogs in need of homes in an attempt to persuade visitors to adopt.

Pop star Miley Cyrus and her partner Liam Hemsworth have a large family of rescued animals, including eight dogs, four cats, and a pig.

The TSA Program has become increasingly popular in recent years, and they are currently not accepting new applications. However, check the website for updates.
